But if you’re a liberal who supports Ron Paul, you either haven’t been paying enough attention or you’re out of your freaking mind.

New Beginnings

A new year and a time for new beginnings. There are people who come into our lives and touch us very deeply. As is the norm in our relationships there is an ebb and flow that can sometimes span decades. I am still very close to people who I grew up with in Brooklyn. We’re talking almost five decades! Others came in much later but still affected us in ways that changed us for the better as well. That does not mean that these relationships are meant to continue in a sporadic manner that begins to affect us in a less positive way. Sometimes we must honestly say that although I will miss you, it is time to separate. If two souls cannot connect even in the most casual manner without it being stressful, then it is time for a final goodbye. The piece of heart will always be there and the memories will aways be there as well but it’s time for a new beginning.

Today was Maryvale High School’s annual Holiday party. I was the school social worker there from 1997-2006 before retiring at the end of the school year. It was great seeing so many old friends and colleagues. Change is good and I’m very happy in my new life as a college professor but I will always reflect back on a very satisfying career providing direct services to adolescents. Now I’m teaching budding social workers how to do it. All is good.

Rudy Lopez, national field director of politics for the Washington, D.C.-based minority advocacy group Campaign for Community Change, said the campaign against Pearce was a “trial run and a model for a national campaign that’s going to take place in 2012 — a campaign to reward champions of immigration reform and hold accountable those who are hostile to our communities.”

“The message of this election is clear,” Lopez said. “Latinos and immigrants will not be scapegoated, and we will not tolerate those politicians who attempt to gain or take power by demonizing us.” (emphasis added)

Another excellent Op-Ed piece from Paul Krugman, this one talking about the Occupy Wall Street protests and why they are scaring the hell out of the right wing media, pundits and politicians.

The way to understand all of this is to realize that it’s part of a broader syndrome, in which wealthy Americans who benefit hugely from a system rigged in their favor react with hysteria to anyone who points out just how rigged the system is.
