Richard Cohen – Attack on Michelle Obama shows Palin’s ignorance of history

The mind boggles that some people, who don’t appear to have suffered a psychotic break, think she is remotely qualified to run for office.

And yet if African Americans hesitate in embracing the mythical wonderfulness of America, they are accused of racism – of having the gall to know more about their own experience and history than Palin and others think they should.

The mind of true Americans boggle at the thought that anyone would publish Cohen’s racist diatribe in the first place.

His lack of worth can be summed up in part of his screed’s closing paragraph,

Sarah Palin teases that she might run for president. But she is unqualified – not just in the (let me count the) usual ways, but because she does not know the country. She could not be the president of black America nor of Hispanic America.

Black America? Hispanic America? You can be American or you can choose to divide yourself from it in some sort of paroxysm race-based exilicism; you can’t do both.

  2. Thanks for commenting but sorry, I can’t agree. I see Cohen’s post as reflecting how America is, in reality. Try working with people of color and once you see that the far right’s marginalization of these people as a threat, lazy, etc. is total bullshit and you can see that there is a tremendous divide between the top 1% and everyone else. Yes, and unfortunately these are Hispanic and Black Americans. The right is intent on demonizing any attempt to deal with American injustices as un-American and anti-capitalist. Palin, Beck, et al are the tools that uninformed people will follow because fear works. Always has, always will.

If you can’t agree, then you support this divided America and, hence there’s no point in further discussion since I do not engage in debate with traitors.

    • No one is asking you to debate. You came here. I do agree there is no point in further discussion. As my little old Italian grandmother (who never learned English) would say: Non disputarti con uno schemo. To save you the Google translation, it means: Never argue with an idiot.

Sarah Palin’s husband hated America so much that he was a secessionist for years. He even joined the secessionist party in Alaska. Talk about double standards. Can you imagine what would be said about Michelle Obama if she had been a secessionist, even briefly during her youth? The howling from the right would be deafening.
